You may be able to find temperate climate fossils in Antartica because for many reasons. One reason may be because there was once a time where all the continents were together. That means that one day a long time ago, there must have been a temperate climate. So,as the years passed and the plate tectonics moved further away from each other. So, the climate must have gotten colder and colder as it got separated away more.
So, I was researching about Antartica, and I found out that Paleontologists have found prove that Antartica might have been next to places that had temperate climates. They think that as the years passed by, the organisms that were of that time must have been left there. Then, sand must have been deposited on top of the dead organisms causing a fossil to form in those  rock layers. If they were trying to find the age of those fossils they could find it easily if it is close to superposition. Superposition is the law that states that if there are undisturbed rock layers then the top layers are the younger ones and the bottom ones are older.
If this is the case, they would be able to ensure that those fossils were of the time when Antartica was connected with different places. So this is why I think that these fossils were found. I think they were   there because of the time that Antartica had not yet been separated from the big continent there once was!

To learn our vocabulary we do Quizlet cards. I think they are very helpful because they actually help me learn. I think they help me learn because they are very easy to use and they get my attention. I do study with them before my test the previous day. I use them because it lets me go through the ones that I do not understand. What is really cool about them is that they have many good activities that can help you remember the words. For example, they have games that let you type in the vocabulary and it kind of motivates you to bet the speed every time.
I also like how you can test yourself on how many words you know by pretesting yourself. These activities help me learn my vocabulary words so much better than anything else I have tried. So, I would not suggest we do something. It would just confuse and it would not help as much as Quizlet does. This very interesting program, gives us choices to choose different methods to use so that we will be able to study. I think that we should keep using them to help us study.

When Charles Darwin made his theory on evolution  he got a lot of information from other people that had information that he needed. When he made his theory on Evolution he made many concepts that had to do with Evolution. One of those concepts was natural selection. Natural selection is when there is a species and they reproduce sometimes they reproduce more than they will survive. Those who do survive, get some traits from their parents. Some may inherit traits that will help them survive much longer than others. Others though will not be lucky enough and they will get traits that are not as helpful. Soon those will die. Those that do survive then mate with each other to produce fertile offspring. Now their offspring have more chances of survival because they got useful traits from both parents.
Evolution is also a theory that Charles Darwin made. Evolution is the process in which things slowly change. All species go to changes through times. Charles made many different observations in his travels that helped him make his theory. The animals in his travels were the ones that made him fully understand what he was thinking. Through his theories he had the collaboration of many people. Those people helped  make his theories more understandable.
Anyway Charles Darwin got information from different resources. The information he got  from many collaborators contributed to  his theories about evolution and natural selection. First of all, he found ideas about evolution on his travels by comparing the very familiar finches he saw in some of the islands he went through. He considered their beaks and saw how they might have changed in time because of their environments. Thomas Malthus was also very helpful. He helped Darwin understand more about the finches and about populations and how it affects the evolution theory. He played a very important role in natural selection. Charles Lyell was also of great help. He showed and more throughly explained how things change. He made Darwin understand how things also change in geological ways. As you can see the Father of Evolution, did not just come up with the thoery by himself. He got so much information from other people too. That helped him a lot!

The Grand Canyon demonstrates superposition by the way it was constructed by natural forces. That means the way the plate are positioned in a certain way. It also demonstrates crosscutting  by the way the mountains cross cut fro, range to range. In other words, it is basically where one mountain starts and another one ends. So it is where both mountains are next to each other. This demonstrates crosscutting because the Grand Canyon has many mountains. This canyon is know throughout the world as a very beautiful natural place.

In our science class we were reading and learning about the population of peppered moths. I learned that the peppered moths population  in England changed color because of the amount of pollution there is in Engalnd's forests. For example if you were in a forest that was not polluted most moths would be light colored, and they would survive much better than the dark moths. The population for the light moths then go up because they are less likely to be seen by predators, and the dark moths would really show because of the surroundings.
I am not sure what color the moths would be in the future, but I am pretty sure that they will be the color that will help them survive in their environments.  This makes natural selection take place just like on the moths life. Natural selection is when an organism is able to survive because of its traits in its own environment.

Last chapter we were working on DNA and Genetics. We did an activity about forming family genes and finding out how they would look like if they had those genes. Then with the flip of a coin we found their genotype and with a chart we found their phenotype. First we had to make two parents, first you had to find which parent you were to do either the father or the mother. After that is chosen you then name your parent and figure out their genes by flipping a coin. After that is finished go back and see how your pet parent will look, we did this by looking at a chart that was already done for us. So as you are creating the appearance of this pet you then notice each gene is telling you how they look, because they are not all the same.
Finally when you are done with your parents you then flip the coin to see which trait the offspring will inherit, that will be what chooses how the pet children will look. We did this six times to get six very different children. That meant they either had a trait that looked like the mother or one like the father.  At the end each one had different traits and they all had something that looked like each parent or a new trait which would be created by getting a trait for each parent if both  parent were homozygous recessive and dominant.
I have a couple of traits from both my parents. I think that I have my mom's height so far and I think I have my dad's eyes, hair color, and my dad's smile, I also have my mom's eyes although mine are much darker. I think that this is alike to my family because it shows the likeness of my family and how we all looked alike. This activity really helped me understand the idea of traits and genetics. Even though genetics is not that simple all you have to do is simply get the basic things now unless you want to study this subject any further. Anyway I thought this was a very fun activity and I learned a lot about it now I understand this material. When we took the test I got an A, that means I mastered the subject.

I think that when there is over population in one place and there is a little bit of resource it will lead to evolution. It will lead to Evolution because there won't be enough food for everyone. That will cause competition because everyone will want to survive, ad by trying to survive they will try anything that they need to do to stay alive. This can cause evolution because if there isn't enough food in one place the species will then try to fight for their food or they will just go to another place where there is enough food.
If there is enough food and resources in that new area, then they will stay there and reproduce with other species that will create a new species. There that species will then be able to adapt to that place and be able to become different as time passes. When time passes that species will be better adapted to that area and it won't have any trouble living there, but at first it will because it will not have the right body elements to survive such as the fur, beak, or even tail to help them live in that specific area. When these changes than start developing then that will cause evolution because that species is no longer then same.
Evolution can be caused by many things. Over population, competition and little resources make that take place and in that process sometimes new species will be created that will then change over time. This sometimes has good impacts or bad impacts to the species' surroundings. Sometimes the whole environment will change when other things change that is the process of evolution.

Punnet Squares are square that help us get the genotypes of the offspring from the  two parents' genotype. They are pretty much like some squared windows. In each square the are four smaller boxes. Each will be a possible trait  for any of their offspring. That means that the Punnet Squares give the probability that it will be a trait foe their children. We have created Punnet Squares for science one that we did was one that we created when we made a family.
In that activity we had to create two parents and then from the parents we had to make Punnet Squares for six of their offspring and at the end we formed a family that the same characteristics as either their parents had or that they created having a trait from both parents. We created this by flipping coins to randomly get one of the traits that were already given.

Last semester we did a DNA jewelry project in which we did little ornaments that represented DNA. This helped us understand a little more how DNA looked. When we did this we had to use different colored beads. In our case we used green, red, blue, and gold, as our nucleotides. For the base pairs we needed a gold and white and two other colors that we would want to make the base pairs complete.
The yellow circled bead was a phosphate, the white circled bead was a sugar and together they made a nucleotide. There was also 4 colors that we had to pair with each other. Blue and gold went together, and red and green went together to form the Base Pairs. In that case each nucleotide had to have a phosphate, sugar and  one of the base pairs.
First you are to form a nucleotide with one of the forms above and another in the opposite side so that you when you pulls the ends into the circle you can have them form a piece of the side of your DNA. Now you have to put the both ends of your wire through the opposite sides then you  pull them together to form a inside  circle by making them go through the white then colored bead. Repeat that so that you can make the ornament. At the end  you put the wires through their sides and pull itand form a circle at the top so you can hang. Then twist the ornament so that it can form the shape of DNA.
So this is how you do a ornament.

I like science  a lot, so I hardly struggle with things. There is though a couple of things that make me kind of confused, or that ar first I did not fully understand . One thing I had a lot of trouble in was in the different phases a cell goes through. I thought it was hard because I couldn't fit the words or definitions with the pictures. The pictures seem to be blurry and not very clear, so that made it harder for me to try to understand it. I also could not see how the pictures were being defined, because to me it all made no sense.
It was hard to learn from that material because we didn't seem to be doing anything to learn from it. Although we had this type of cheat- cheat page with all the pictures with it all in the right explanation, I still did not seem to understand what was happening in each scene or phase in the cell. It was also difficult for me to understand it because of the words, I could have had another thing so that I could have studied.
